Pledge Form for The Class of 1958 Legacy Gift

Lt Col Gordon M. Gerson, USAF (Ret.)

291 Wood Road, Beach Hall

Annapolis, MD 21402

Dear Classmates and Friends:

In July, we lost a cherished friend with the passing of Admiral Charles R. “Chuck” Larson ’58, USN (Ret.). Throughout his exemplary career, which included two tours as Naval Academy Superintendent, Chuck embodied the very finest qualities of a Naval Academy graduate: honesty, integrity, courage, commitment and selflessness. In Chuck’s honor, the Class of 1958 Board of Trustees has worked with the Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation to establish an endowment that both celebrates the ideals and principles Chuck upheld throughout his life and helps ensure that those values continue to shape the Academy and the Brigade of Midshipmen.

To move forward with this initiative, we need your help.

One of Chuck’s greatest interests and principal goals as Superintendent was to develop ethical leadership among the Academy’s faculty, staff and athletic coaches—men and women with extraordinary influence on the values, performance and conduct of the midshipmen. Our endowment aims to fund the Class of 1958 Admiral Charles R. Larson Ethical Leadership Excellence Award, which will be presented annually to a civilian or military member of the Naval Academy faculty or staff or an athletic team coach who has exhibited a high level of integrity, moral courage and selflessness in the performance of his or her duties and has contributed significantly to the Academy’s mission to graduate ethical leaders for the Navy, the Marine Corps and the nation.

Award recipients will receive a check for the net amount of $4,058 and see their name listed on a perpetual plaque in the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership, which was established during Chuck’s tenure as Superintendent.

The Class must raise $210,000 to fund the endowment in perpetuity, and we are seeking the support of our classmates, our widows and all those who graduated during Chuck’s tours as Superintendent.

Please join us in helping to create a fitting memorial for Chuck and in strengthening the future of ethical leadership at the Academy. For your convenience, we have enclosed a pledge form with this letter.

Go Navy!

Gordon Gerson
President, USNA ’58
